Book Nook – Great books for the kids and cakes for the parents !

As we truck here and there with our children we thought we would start to share some of the great places we have encountered.    I have lived in Sussex most of my life , and I am still finding places we never knew about to  take the kids.

So here is the latest find.  – The Book Nook  in Hove, Sussex.

With a stinking cold and generally feeling very sorry for myself, I did not feel up to very much - (don’t you just remember the days when you could just lie on the Sofa and watch daytime TV with the Duvet !).  In the back of my mind I remember a friend telling me about a great little children’s book shop in Hove that served great hot chocolate and home made cakes !  – Feed a cold they say  ………

So off we went to cake and book land.

It is just one of those trips which can just help break up the day,  you can grab a coffee and delicious cakes  and there is no guilt as the children get  to read all these great books stored in a Pirate ship !     I have to confess I sat and watched whilst Flo bonded with other children and stuffed my face with hot chocolate and marsh mellows.

The Book Nook offers books for all ages from birth to teenage fiction. Whether your child wants to discover their first words, encounter walking with Dinosaurs, explore with Dora or even unearth the mysteries behind Vampires, The Book Nook provides a wide range of stimulating books.safely or enjoy their latest read.

The Book Nook has excellent facilities and run frequent special events throughout the year including: author visits, book and character days, story telling sessions and book review competitions.  Nick Sharratt recently paid a visit and read to the children his ‘Pants’ book.

The lovely owners and staff are passionate about providing specialist knowledge and work closely with schools and nurseries in the area. Vanessa is an experienced English and Drama Teacher and Literacy Co-ordinator and Julie has extensive knowledge of publishing.   They could not have been more helpful in choosing books for Flo.

definitely worth a visit ! xx

If you know of a similar bookshop in your neck of the woods why not share it with us !

Groombridge – The Magical Forest

Last week I took my daughter Flo and my niece and nephew to an enchanted forest.

I wanted to share our trip with you because it is such an amazing and magical place for children – it is like something out of an Enid Blyton novel. (For those of you older mums who may have read the Faraway tree ten time over like me !)

It is called Groombridge and sells itself as the Enchanted Forest where there is Magic, Mystery, Romance and Peace.

There is something for everyone – the most amazing tree house you should ever wish to climb,  Flo and Rose were taught to play some musical instruments by roaming musicians who seemed to appear like magic from behind the trees,  Harvey had his face painted by woodland elves and Nanny even had a sway on the adult swing pushed by three rather over zealous grand children !  Oh and did I forget to mention the giant wicker dinosaur with his eggs hidden in the tree tops !

Even the rain did not dampen the spirits – we had a picnic lunch in a large teepee

Finished the day with a run through the broadwalk to feed tame deer or bambi’s as Flo liked to call them. We even met a Zee Donk !

Magical day with Magical memories.

Groombridge is easily accessible from London.

On the 26th September they have a Superheros and Fairies days - Magical and enchanting fun – dress up as your favourite superhero or fairy with story telling and activities
